About Us

From Sharecropper's Song to Community's Legacy

Welcome to the MA' & 9 MustardSeeds Foundation, where the enduring spirit of the late Thelma Brownlee, fondly remembered as "The Singing Sharecropper," and her remarkable family of nine children is celebrated and preserved. Established as Ma' & 9 Mustard Seeds, our foundation stands as a testament to their remarkable journey, resilience, and achievements. At our core, we are committed to fostering positive change and celebrating the values of unity, resilience, and cultural heritage.
Central to our mission is the House of Mtenzi Museum, affectionately dubbed "The Hidden Jewel of Memphis." Here, visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the captivating story of Ma' & 9 MustardSeeds and explore the rich cultural tapestry of our community. Through engaging exhibits and interactive displays, the museum pays homage to the indomitable spirit of this extraordinary family.
In addition to preserving history, we honor excellence and achievement through the prestigious Annual Stone"Eben"Awards. These accolades recognize individuals and organizations making significant contributions to our community, embodying the values of perseverance, compassion, and service.
Our commitment to remembrance and unity is further exemplified through the MA9 Forgotten Souls Festival, an annual event dedicated to honoring those whose contributions have been overlooked or forgotten. It is a poignant reminder of the importance of acknowledging and celebrating the diversity of experiences that shape our community.
Furthermore, the Annual Mtenzi Awards serve as a platform to spotlight outstanding individuals and initiatives that align with our mission of promoting positive change and social responsibility. By recognizing and celebrating excellence, we inspire others to embrace the values of resilience, compassion, and service that define the Ma' & 9 MustardSeeds legacy.
Located at 1289 Madison Ave in Memphis, Tennessee, the House of Mtenzi Museum serves as a beacon of inspiration and remembrance. It is a place where the remarkable story of Ma' & 9 MustardSeeds is beautifully preserved and shared with future generations. Our foundation's signature quote, "Against All Odds; A Southern Family That Endured, Survived & Achieved," encapsulates the unwavering spirit and resilience of Ma' & 9 MustardSeeds. Join us as we honor their legacy and continue their legacy of making a positive impact on our community.
